Many actors depend on their photographer to make themselves look good. As an actor you need to realize that you and the photographer rely on each other for a successful shoot. Remember that as an actor you are in business for yourself, and you need to ask yourself how you plan to market yourself as an actor. In other words, ask yourself what type of roles do you see yourself being cast for.
Once you have a good idea what roles you will most likely be cast in, communicate this to your photographer. You do not want your photographers lighting to be too dark and dramatic when you see yourself as an open, fun individual.
